A three day trek to the Bar Harbor region is about right for anyone in New England - you see plenty on the way to and from the place, and one full day will let you see enough so you will came again to see the rest, since the place changes in beauty through the seasons. Sadly, the roads do get clogged, especially in the park after noon where the drive from the entry gates past Otter Point resemble a long parking lot as hikers abandon their cars in the "parking lane" all day, preventing people from taking brief pauses in the lane to take photos of Sandy Beach, Thunder Hole and Jordan Pond.

I always visit Bar Harbor off season outside the period when you need reservations for Cadillac Mountain. That way, parking is not an issue when in Arcadia National Park. The downside to late fall is that many restaurants and shops are closed for the season. The plus is that you are eating and shopping with the locals.

We arrived with leaves still in their Autumn splendor and unusally warm weather making it possible to do a bit of outdoor explration and a hike in Acadia. Shops this time of year (late October) are mostly closed, while some are surprisingly open. The waterfront is beautiful. The neighborhoods are very pretty, and people are friendly. We want to return with time to immerse ourselves.

Bar Harbor was a beautiful place.
Bar Harbor was a beautiful place. Well kept, clean, and very photo worthy. The shops and restaurants were friendly staffed and we never had bad service. If you are planning a trip here, be advised there is a lot of walking. Parking is available but is metered. We walked everywhere we went and everything is within 10 minutes. For the lobster and seafood lovers; you would think since lobster is found right off the bay it would be less expensive, however this was not the case. Please bring a decent amount of money for the restaurants as is to be expected, this is a tourist town and you pay a tourist price. Acadia National Park is just a quick 6 minutes away with stunning things to see.

Perfect starting point for the indescribably beautiful Acadia National Park. Lots of charm and history. Enjoyed the self guided walking tour as a lesson and intro to the area. Reminds me a lot of Cape Cod with the environs and architecture, harbor and beaches. Fantastic food options and friendly helpful town folk. Just a real gem. Don’t miss it!

We really liked the location of the hotel and the fact that we were able to park our car early and walk downtown to check things out before checking into our room. Also, after we checked out, we were able to leave our car on site while we spent a few hours walking around downtown - before driving to catch the ferry. We didn't have to worry about trying to find parking downtown. It was also great having a quick breakfast/snacks to grab before heading out in the morning.
A really lovely hotel on the edge of Bar Harbor close to Acadia National Park. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very nice and spacious, we wanted for nothing. We particularly liked the way the hotel encouraged guests to recycle items and all products used at breakfast were recyclable which was fantastic! The breakfast too was really nice with a great choice of items each day.
