Went in April before temperatures get too hot. Beach was nice. Water temperature excellent. Stayed in nice, clean, updated condo approx 1 block from beach. Also Dollar General at other end of block for purchase of needed items. Lots of public access areas to get to beach. Offers other things to do besides visit the beach. This island is not kid friendly.
This island is not kid friendly. There is so much more to do on Galveston island and food places etc. south Padre water was gross we couldn't get in the water The island was packed with people traffic was insane just to get to an ice cream shop. We spent too much on a very short go cart ride at Gravity This place gives county fair vibes but in a burnt out carny way ( the rides looked unsafe, old) We did happen upon some sand art that was pretty ool but it was not advertised and we just happened to walk by the tent.Guest review byAnonymous - Review score
Go in early April!
Go in early April! Snow birds and spring breakers are gone, and summer vacationers haven't shown up yet. There were no crowds everywhere, and everything was inexpensive. Temperature was never below 76 degrees or above 83 degrees the entire 2.5 days I was there. South Padre Island is a nice place to relax with a cozy beach. It’s not the typical crystal-clear water beach you see in movies, but it’s great for bird watching, fishing, and enjoying the Gulf of Mexico. My favorite spots were the beach and the nature areas where you can see a variety of birds. For food, my favorite tacos were actually in Brownsville at El Último Taco, about a 40-minute drive from the island, but definitely worth it. The food in general was good. Getting around South Padre felt simple since it’s mostly one main road. You can drive, but biking is also a great way to explore. For fun activities, there’s a pier in Port Isabel where you can fish, and you can also take boat tours from both there and South Padre. If you’re into space, Isla Blanca Park is a great spot to watch rocket launches, and there’s even a boat that takes you pretty close for a launch from the Gulf of Mexico. The island also has a lot of history and culture, making it an interesting place to visit.Guest review byAxelUnited States - Review score
Amazing !!
Amazing !! I went in February so the waves were really choppy and the water was too cold to get in. I went for my birthday and was eager to go to the coast. The island itself is beautiful compared to most in Texas. Will definitely be visiting again in the warmer months! The gift shops on the island were also amazing with wonderful staff:) Restaurants on the island are also amazing and never disappoint.Guest review byAnonymous - Review score

Lots of places to eat. If you don"t care to be in ocean, its great being there during the winter before Spring Break starts. very light traffic during winter to get on & off Island. Porky"s BBQ food trailer huge pulled pork loaded baked potato plate I made into Three meals for $ 8.00 If you like Jimmy Buffet visit Margaritaville Hotel. Visit Clayton"s Beach Bar & Grille for outside live music & food. If you love horses ride a horse on the beach. Go on a zip line, fly on a helicopter. visit Sea Turtle CenterGuest review byRichard
